Why it works

Both sign-up forms send the new subscriber to upscribe.page, SparkLoop’s recommendation page, before the thank-you: “Just a moment — setting up your welcome experience…”. It offers other newsletters to subscribe to, which publishers typically use to trade or earn from referrals. It sits behind a Cloudflare check (“Confirm you’re human to continue. This one-time check keeps recommendations fair for everyone.”) that stopped the automated capture, so the recommendations themselves weren’t seen. On the DOAC run the check failed and the page skipped straight to the thank-you.
